To expand on the comments I already put out there, this is an important book and that it was very well written! Before getting to read the book, I was drawn to the title Black Boys Don’t Speak with my son in mind who is very quiet and doesn’t have much to say! The content of the book was more than what I expected! I say it’s an important book because anyone who has been struggling with many aspects of their lives should consider giving it a read! It is interesting and informative in that a lot has been brought to light about the author. It explains the struggles and behaviors that have possibly resulted from everything that has been endured. If you are contemplating reading this book, pick it up! You will definitely learn something about this author and you may just learn something about yourself!

An excellent inspirational read for kids and adults. This book has several important messages about having a voice, being honest and speaking out, and many more issues that we face. One of the biggest issues kids face is not being able to discover their identity and not using their voice, which we need to reinforce this message to our kids, especially during their developmental years.

Black Boys Don't Speak starts with me wanting to know the ending as soon as I read a chapter but I didn't go there. I'm not finished reading it yet but enough to give an honest review. It can teach us all, boys, girls and adults, that need to know, that it's ok to ask how we came to be apart of this world, where we fit in. I personally still need to know, so it really hit home for me and touched my heart. There's a lifetime of internalizing trauma and it's mentally draining. I'm finding out it's not just in the black communities, that keep secrets and ppl are still keeping their children in the dark from knowing where they came from, their heritage, and such.. WHY?!? It should be an open book and I'm glad that the Author broke the mold and wrote it so those who read it won't think twice and will pass the word on, so black boys and girls will start speaking up. It's a good read and although I haven't finished, I have already recommended that it be read! Great Book JG!
